As a creative entrepreneur, originality is the backbone of your business.

There is no one else like you in the world. That’s why the world needs your art and your unique perspectives. 

Sure – there are lots of people who paint or write or design. 

But no one can do it quite the same way you do!

So, what happens when Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology like Chat GPT enters the picture? 

This has been a HOT debate in the visual art and design world especially when it comes to things like plagiarism and intellectual property.

At first, it may seem generic and against everything you stand for. 

While scrolling through social media, you’ve probably seen the long threads debating the topic. You may have instantly felt pulled one way or the other.

I get it.

When word of AI technology like Chat GPT started circulating in the business world, I immediately wrote it off for content creation. 

“I’ll never use that in my business…”

But then I kept hearing other entrepreneurs raving about AI. 

I heard about its potential and my curiosity kicked in. 

I felt the need to form my own opinion!

So I tried it out.

I’ve been especially intrigued by AI’s role in ops and running the backend of a business, but I haven’t yet found applicable ways to use it just yet. 

But with tools like Chat GPT rolling out, I don’t think we’re far off!

So I decided to start by exploring AI, specifically Chat GPT, for content creation purposes. 

Here’s what I found…

What happened when I put Chat GPT to the test

When I put Chat GPT to the test, I asked it to write a blog post about how to build a successful creative business

To my surprise, it delivered relatively accurate, well-organized, and concise information that hit key points. 

It encouraged the reader to:

All things I wholeheartedly agree with. 

ChatGPT clearly understood the assignment.

However, it lacked my personal flair, tone, and style. It was a one-size-fits-all piece of content that any business coach could have written.

I couldn’t fully understand the hype just yet.

So, I dug a little deeper.

And I’ll be honest–

I was totally floored by what I found beneath the surface.

The capabilities of AI left me eating my words when I realized it actually had the potential to do more good than harm.

Sure, AI has its fair share of limitations. 

But, when used strategically, it can become a powerful part of your content creation system as a creative entrepreneur. 

HOW you use AI can make all the difference!

In this blog, I’ll introduce you to a few ways that you can ethically leverage AI in your business to work smarter, not harder, and improve the quality of your content marketing without ever having to compromise your values or sacrifice the “soul” of your business. 

What is Chat GPT?

Chat GPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) powered chatbot that has the ability to learn and understand human language. 

This means it can generate natural-sounding responses to prompts that are typed into the chat.

For example, you can ask Chat GPT to craft a sonnet about butterflies, research the history of the Alamo, or write a 5 paragraph blog post about starting a creative business. 

Its versatility means it can be used for a wide range of tasks and applications which makes it an excellent resource to add to your business toolkit!

Most recently, Chat GPT has caused a stir in several industries. 

In addition to influencing the education world (where it has sparked a lot of debate around plagiarism), it has changed the way things are done in business!

That’s because Chat GPT can be used for a wide variety of tasks such as customer service,  language translation, and content generation. 

For the sake of this blog post, we will focus on leveraging Chat GPT for content creation as part of a larger content marketing system in your creative business. 

But before you go ahead and implement new technology into your business systems, it’s important to evaluate the pros and cons!

There’s a reason so many entrepreneurs are buzzing about Chat GPT. It has a ton of potential in business! 

Here are just a few of the ways the Chat GPT can make your life easier as a creative business owner.

  1. Save time

It goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: As entrepreneurs, we have a whole lot on our plates. 

Chat GPT can save you time by generating content for you. It can help you develop and brainstorm ideas, research sources to back up your claims, write or outline blog posts, and even create scripts for your TikTok videos or social media captions for platforms like IG.

Early in your business, leveraging Chat GPT may be a great first step before you decide to hire a new team member or outsource projects. 

  1. Be consistent 

Chat GPT can help you maintain consistency. It ensures your messaging is on point and that your tone is consistent across all platforms. Since it saves you time and energy, it can also enhance your systems. They’ll become more sustainable which means you can show up regularly the way you want to in your creative work and the backend of your business.

I’m not one to push productivity just for productivity’s sake. But anytime I find a tool or a strategy that will help me spend more time on the things I love most in my business and my life (A.K.A. gimme ALL the family time), I’m IN! With Chat GPT taking care of some of your content needs, you can focus on other essential aspects of your business and your life!

Cons of Chat GPT

While Chat GPT can be used for good, it can easily be used for “evil.”

Kidding.

But seriously

When used irresponsibly or unintentionally, it can have a negative impact on your business. 

  1. Lack of originality

As creative entrepreneurs, we’re proud of our authenticity. Chat GPT can sometimes come across as robotic, which isn’t ideal when trying to connect with your audience on an authentic, human level. And I mean, do you really want to share content that’s almost identical to your industry competitors? Didn’t think so.

  1. Quality control 

Humans aren’t perfect, and even though it’s a “robot” Chat GPT isn’t flawless either. When Chat GPT generates content, it may not meet your expectations for quality or source reliability. You’ll need to build in time on the backend to review and edit the content before you hit publish. This will ensure the content you’re sharing includes accurate information you and your brand can confidently stand behind.

  1. Reliance 

If you depend too heavily on Chat GPT, you may start to lose touch with your audience. You’ll need to make sure that you’re still engaging with your followers and responding to their needs, especially if you’re letting Chat GPT do most of the writing for you. Writing your own content or expanding on the foundation Chat GPT prepares for you can ensure you’re weaving in authentic voice-of-customer questions, concerns, interests, and goals along the way. It’s all about balance!

So, now that we’ve looked at a few of the pros and cons, let’s talk about how you can successfully use Chat GPT without sacrificing the soul of your business.

How and when you use AI like Chat GPT will likely vary from how other entrepreneurs leverage this technology. There is no one “right” way to use it in your business, there’s only the right way for YOU!

You may even find you use it for different purposes in different seasons of your business.

No matter how you decide to use it, these “Quick Tips” will help you do so both effectively and ethically. 

Tip #1: Use AI to support your unique business needs

Since there are so many possibilities, each business owner will leverage Chat GPT to suit their own needs and work styles. 

In my business, Chat GPT is a tool I’ve started to explore as a way to enhance my content creation since content marketing is such a huge piece of my overall business plan. 

You might use it differently!

I encourage you to explore how you can take advantage of this tool to make your unique systems work better and smoother!

Tip #2: Use AI as a tool, not a replacement

Tools like Chat GPT can certainly help you write your business content. But if you rely on the information that the AI gathers alone, you miss out on opportunities to infuse your perspectives, experiences, and ideas.

Chat GPT can be a great resource to help you: 

  • structure and organize your thoughts more cohesively
  • get the ideas flowing if you’re hitting a bout of writer’s block
  • research a topic so you can back up your claims
  • come up with unique angles that you can use to create your own original content
  • identify and fill content gaps in your industry 

Instead of thinking of AI as something that can just take care of the writing for you, use it as a tool to enhance or inspire your original ideas and communicate them more clearly. 

Tip #3: Add your unique flair

One way to ensure your Chat GPT-generated content feels like YOU is to edit and personalize it. When used this way, requesting a blog post from Chat GPT on a specific topic is just the first step in a more thorough content creation process.

You can then take that content and apply your unique brand voice. I recommend you insert words and phrases that you commonly use in your business and weave in storytelling to expand on the facts the AI has gathered. 

This will guarantee your content stands out from the crowd and doesn’t just regurgitate information anyone could stumble upon while scrolling through Google

Tip #4: Know the limitations of AI 

No matter how you choose to leverage Chat GPT, it’s important to remember: AI is only as good as the information you put in!

The more specific you can be about what you want it to do, what it should include, and how you want it to pull everything together, the better the AI will be able to meet your expectations

Ultimately, to get the best results when using Chat GPT for your content:

  • Decide what you want to say FIRST (you need to have an opinion and a perspective).
  • Be clear about the platform (i.e. a blog, a script, a poem, or a social media post) and the format of what you want. 
  • Provide any unique information you want to include upfront (aka stuff the bot can’t just gather from its limited database).
  • Be as specific as possible!

Finally, as I mentioned earlier, be sure to fact-check and review for tone and accuracy. While AI can predict a lot, it isn’t a mind reader!

Shifting Your Mindset Around AI

I was totally against using AI technology like Chat GPT to generate content for my business.

Maybe you felt the same!

But while on the surface it seemed to go against my brand values, when I dug deeper and got creative, I realized it could actually be a valuable tool for creative entrepreneurs. 

All it took was a mindset shift and a commitment to use the tech responsibly and ethically!

While Chat GPT and similar AI tools definitely have the potential to save you time, energy, and money in your creative business, they shouldn’t be relied upon as the sole source of content creation. 

Use it wisely and make sure that your brand’s personality shines through in every piece of content you share!
